Why I decided to run - an introduction

Hello!

My name is Robert and, after nearly 26 years of blissful ignorance, I've decided to start running. Why?

1. To raise money

I've been involved with Big Brothers, Big Sisters for a few months now (as a "big") and recently signed up to raise money on their behalf and run the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in January, 2010. Picking a full marathon to run might be an unwise idea, but it's a cause I feel strongly about - kids in the program get real help through great mentoring programs. I've got a modest fundraising goal ($1300) that I intend to hit early on. If you'd like to help, feel free to visit my page here.

2. Because I need to

I need to get a little healthier - running three or four days a week seems like a pretty effective way to get there. It's that simple.

3. To prove I don't really hate it

Running is an activity I've avoided my entire life. Cycling? I'm in. Team sports? Sure thing. But running? No way. It has always seemed slow, tedious, and totally, totally exhausting. To be honest, I've just never really tried it. Maybe I'll pick up a new hobby. It certainly couldn't hurt (okay, maybe it might, a little).

That's it, really. I'll use this blog to rant, rave, and document my progress - every step of the way.
